COACHELLA VALLEY MUSEUM & CULTURAL CENTER: Located at 82616 Miles Ave. Indio. The museum houses a. permanent collection of historical artifacts in a 1926 adobe home. Hours are Wed - Sat (10 am-4 pm), Sunday (1-4 pm). Weekends June & September. Closed July & August. Stop at Clark's Travel Center on Historic Rte. 99 and receive a free pass. Phone: (760) 342-6651.
COACHELLA VALLEY PRESERVE (THOUSAND PALMS OASIS): Located on Ramon Road (North of I-10 at Washington Street) then 2 miles north on 1000 Palms Canyon Road. Watch for signs. Phone: (760) 343-1234.
JOSHUA TREE NATIONAL PARK: This is the newest national park in the United States, located on 870 square miles where the Mojave and lower Colorado deserts meet. Available activities include hiking, camping, horseback trails, rock climbing, guided tours, & walks. Phone: (760) 367-7511.
GENERAL PATTON MEMORIAL: Visit this museum and grounds containing several vintage army tanks and numerous artifacts honoring General George S. Patton and the thousands of men who served with him at the Desert Training Center and overseas. Just take I-10 East of Indio and you will find the museum located at Chiriaco Summit. ELDORADO/EMPIRE POLO CLUB: Located on Ave. 51 between Monroe & Madison Streets. Top players can be seen in league matches from Nov. - Apr.. Arena polo occurs Sept. - Oct.. PAINTED CANYONS: From Mecca, take Box Canyon Road to Painted Canyon Road. Visitors will find canyons of varied colors and shapes.
